Network database
You can place the Flashpaste database on an available network
resource. Thus, multiple users will be able to use the centralized
database simultaneously. All you have to do is to place the
database into a folder available to network users and configure the
database path in program options, e.g.:
\\server\publick\flashpaste\common.db
When the network database is used by multiple users, we
recommend doing the following for all clients:
- Enable database caching.
- Mark the "read only" box.
- Share the folder containing the database in read-only
mode.
- Use local databases for personal
data.
- Enable database edits for administrator only.
Database caching
You can enable database caching in the program settings
("Databases" page). Note that:
- You should enable caching if the database file is stored on the
network drive. This will imporve performance dramatically if
operating in the networked environment.
- We recommend that you disable the caching if you don't use a
network database.
How does it work?
If caching is enabled, Flashpaste creates a local copy of the
databases in the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\User
Name\Application Data\flashpaste\Cache\" at startup. Later, it will
work with this copied databases.
If the cache is enabled you can always save database manually
using the main menu of the program (File->Save
Database). To reopen the database from the file, use
File->Reopen Database. Also database will be
saved automatically when you will close the Main Window. All
changes are immediately displayed in the string selection dialog
box.
When caching is disabled, all changes are immediately saved to
the main database.
